'''ZMLarch''' is a liveCD ZoneMinder demo, development tool, and installer solution.
Based on Arch Linux and built with the larch live CD/USB toolkit, ZMLarch is fairly light weight at ~425MB
Documentation on the CD is sparse, but effort has been made to keep it as simple to use as possible.
The CD's browser home page has a link back to here, so users can help with documenting.

The current release on June 30, 2009 is '''ZMLarch_1.24.2-1.iso'''
It is available for download here:
::http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/files/file/246-zoneminder-zm-larch-live-cd/
::http://www.greenwattle.com/linux/zmlarch/ZMLarch_1.24.2-1.iso
::http://www.dward.name/iso/ZMLarch_1.24.2-1.iso
==Included software==
*ZoneMinder svn 2935-1 (ZoneMinder is packaged and updating is very simple. See [[Update_ZMLarch]])
*ffmpeg-svn 18940-1 (Built with the RTSP authentication patch)
*kernel 2.6.29.4-1
*Firefox 3.0.11-1
*MySQL 5.1.35-1
*PHP 5.2.9-3
*mjpg-streamer r63-1

==Features==
*A lightweight openbox desktop environment
** In an effort to keep the system light, ZMLarch doesn't use a display manager (typical runlevel 5). It's set up so that /etc/inittab runs autologin for 'user', then /home/user/.bash_profile starts X
** To disable X, comment the line out of /home/user/.bash_profile
*A unique hostame that has the form "zmhost_nn(n)_nn(n)" The numeric portion is determined by the last two octets of the mac address of the network interface. The preference order of interfaces is "wlan0", "ath0","eth0". Having a unique hostname enables us to use avahi to announce zeroconf network services. So the liveCD system can be used in a headless, dhcp configured network setup. Useful for "on the fly" temporary deployment. Of course these features can also be used in a more permanently installed system as well.

==Fixes==
===High Resolution Monitors===
Cameras above 320x240 will probably render a broken icon.
echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmall
echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmmax

To make the change permanent edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add
kernel.shmall = 134217728
kernel.shmmax = 134217728

==Data Storage==
Events are stored @ /var/lib/zm/www/events/, which is mounted (where?)

Connecting the ICamView to ZoneMinder is not as simple as you might hope. So I set about writing a proxy application.

This application sits on the box running zoneminder and provides a proxy between the proprietary video port and provides an MJPEG stream to zoneminder. In an ideal world, ICamView would make a complient port, but given their releases of updates it seems unlikely.

The application is fully portable and has been written using C++, SDL and SDL_net extension. I have compiled and tested it in windows and Linux (Fedora 6). There is no reason why this should not work on any other platform.

Below is a link for a page containing an article and source code for a C++ ICamView proxy for ZoneMinder.

This is a small application that can be used to allow an ICamview to be used with Zoneminder.

There are 2 methods of getting images out of this. You can do jpeg grabs by sending a url, but it redirects you to a login page the first time you try to access the image and it's not any kind of standard http login method, so I gave up on that.

To get streaming images it uses udp, and a little bit of playing about with ethereal let me work out the protocol well enough to knock up a relay app that gets jpegs using the udp method and sends them out as an mjpeg stream. You can then connect to the relay as if it were a network camera. Unfortunately (depending on your point of view) it's written in java as that's what I do for a living and I haven't had time to relearn C and all the sockets/threading stuff. If anyone wants to port it to C then feel free, but please post it back here so I can use it!

usage is:

java -cp . ICamviewRelay <icamview ip addr> <icamview port> <fps> <local server port> <icamview user> <icamview pass>
http://www.buzzbacklinks.com/edu-links-link-building-services-google-backlinks
to compile it:

javac -cp . ICamviewRelay.java

[http://www.neilraymond.plus.com/ICamviewRelay.java ICamviewRelay.java]

[http://www.icamview.com http://www.icamview.com]

this works perfectly..! with the following entry in the Remote Host Path /icamviewrelay?cam=01
