We have H.264 video recording from MagicWave Systems network license plate cameras working on multiple video recording servers. The servers are deployed in outdoor, high traffic environments within air-conditioned enclosures. Use of h264 for video has several advantages:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Low Delay. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Often the timestamps between camera and ZoneMinder can be fairly separated in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Less Load. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;H264 streams put less load on the system, which is great for low power systems.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Little change in image quality. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Various settings allow optimizing images.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Consistent/ smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In order to get this functioning properly, we set up these machines with the most recent revision of x264 and ffmpeg (Nov 17, 2010). ZoneMinder is also from SVN in these installs though not always the same revision. Next we used Ffmpeg mode as the source and the url &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;rtsp://&amp;#039;&amp;#039;ip&amp;#039;&amp;#039;:554/axis-media/media.amp&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt; as the path. On the more powerful of our machines we ran at 5 fps, the others lower. Our cameras are in Modect mode and detect motion properly and consistently. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Some other notes:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure the rtsp server is enabled on the camera. &lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure settings are optimized and consistent between the camera and ZoneMinder&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;

We have MPEG-4 (part 2) video working on various video recording servers out in the field. The servers are in outdoor, high traffic areas in air conditioned enclosures. MPEG-4 offers similar advantages to the other video modes, including:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Low Delay. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Often the timestamps between camera and ZoneMinder can be fairly separated in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Less Load. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;mpeg4 streams put less load on the system, which is great for low power systems.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Little change in image quality. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Various settings allow optimizing images.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Consistent/smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mpeg4 has worked properly in previous revisions, but our machines all have very recent revisions of ffmpeg and ZoneMinder. The monitors are Modect, and they are on a LAN connection. We set the source to &amp;#039;remote&amp;#039; and filled in settings:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
[[Image:sw_mpeg4_streaming_2.png|left|thumb|caption|Sample Settings]]&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Protocol: rtsp. &lt;br /&gt;
* Remote method: RTP/RTSP. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;See below for some notes on this setting.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Remote Host Name: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;camera url/path&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Port: 554&lt;br /&gt;
* Remote Host Path: /mpeg4/media.amp . &amp;#039;&amp;#039;for axis 225fd and 241s.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The remote method setting works on all 4 settings, but you must be sure that you choose the one best for your situation. Unicast uses udp, rtp/rtsp uses tcp and transports over rtsp port, and rtp/rtsp/http does the same but over the http port. If using the http option you should use your camera&amp;#039;s http port. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As with other video modes, be sure that the camera&amp;#039;s rtsp server is enabled and that the settings between ZoneMinder and the camera are optimized and consistent. &lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
* Low Delay. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Often the timestamps between camera and ZoneMinder can be fairly separated in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Less Load. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;mpeg4 streams put less load on the system, which is great for low power systems.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Little change in image quality. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Various settings allow optimizing images.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Consistent/smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;We have mpeg4 video working on various video recording servers out in the field. The servers are in outdoor, high traffic areas in air conditioned enclosures. MPEG-4 (part 2) offers similar advantages to the other video modes, including:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Low Delay. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Often the timestamps between camera and ZoneMinder can be fairly separated in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Less Load. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;mpeg4 streams put less load on the system, which is great for low power systems.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Little change in image quality. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Various settings allow optimizing images.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Consistent/smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mpeg4 has worked properly in previous revisions, but our machines all have very recent revisions of ffmpeg and ZoneMinder. The monitors are Modect, and they are on a LAN connection. We set the source to &amp;#039;remote&amp;#039; and filled in settings:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
[[File:mpeg4_zm_source_settings.png|thumb|alt=settings|example settings]]&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Protocol: rtsp. &lt;br /&gt;
* Remote method: RTP/RTSP. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;See below for some notes on this setting.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Remote Host Name: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;camera url/path&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Port: 554&lt;br /&gt;
* Remote Host Path: /mpeg4/media.amp . &amp;#039;&amp;#039;for axis 225fd and 241s.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The remote method setting works on all 4 settings, but you must be sure that you choose the one best for your situation. Unicast uses udp, rtp/rtsp uses tcp and transports over rtsp port, and rtp/rtsp/http does the same but over the http port. If using the http option you should use your camera&amp;#039;s http port. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As with other video modes, be sure that the camera&amp;#039;s rtsp server is enabled and that the settings between ZoneMinder and the camera are optimized and consistent. &lt;br /&gt;

We have H.264 video recording from Axis P3343-VE-12mm network cameras working on multiple video recording servers. The servers are deployed in outdoor, high traffic environments within air-conditioned enclosures. Use of h264 for video has several advantages:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Low Delay. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Often the timestamps between camera and ZoneMinder can be fairly separated in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;

* Consistent/ smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In order to get this functioning properly, we set up these machines with the most recent revision of x264 and ffmpeg (Nov 17, 2010). ZoneMinder is also from SVN in these installs though not always the same revision. Next we used Ffmpeg mode as the source and the url &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;rtsp://&amp;#039;&amp;#039;ip&amp;#039;&amp;#039;:554/axis-media/media.amp&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt; as the path. On the more powerful of our machines we ran at 5 fps, the others lower. Our cameras are in Modect mode and detect motion properly and consistently. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Some other notes:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure the rtsp server is enabled on the camera. &lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure settings are optimized and consistent between the camera and ZoneMinder&lt;br /&gt;

* ZMA processes appear to be more stable. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;ZMA processes have had stability issues on some machines in other modes.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Less Load. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;H264 streams put less load on the system, which is great for low power systems.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Little change in image quality. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Various settings allow optimizing images.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
* Consistent/smooth video. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Events are complete and without jumping in video.&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
 In order to get this functioning properly we set up these machines with the most recent revision of H264 and ffmpeg (Nov 17, 2010). ZoneMinder is also from SVN in these installs though not always the same revision. Next we used Ffmpeg mode as the source and the url &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;rtsp://&amp;#039;&amp;#039;ip&amp;#039;&amp;#039;:554/axis-media/media.amp&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt; as the path. On the more powerful of our machines we ran at 5 fps, the others lower. Our cameras are in Modect mode and detect motion properly and consistently. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Some other notes:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure the rtsp server is enabled on the camera. &lt;br /&gt;
* Be sure settings are optimized and consistent between the camera and ZoneMinder&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;

within ZoneMinder there are 3 ways to view a stream from monitors. Unfortunately viewing a live stream can be a large toll on bandwidth, by default you will not be able to view live events if your user has a &amp;quot;low&amp;quot; bandwidth setting within ZoneMinder.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Watch view=&lt;br /&gt;
From this view you get live stream from the monitor with an automatically updating list of current events. If you have multiple monitors open in this view, when an alarm happens the recording camera will bring itself to the front.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
Go back to the [[How_To|How To]] pages...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Prerequisites=&lt;br /&gt;
To export, download and view the events from ZoneMinder there are 3 prerequisites.&lt;br /&gt;
# Access to your ZoneMinder website.&lt;br /&gt;
# An application to unpack the exported files.&lt;br /&gt;
#* For Linux most distributions include an application like unzip or untar.&lt;br /&gt;
#* For Windows an excellent open source alternative to the default archive manager is [http://www.7-zip.org/download.html 7-Zip]&lt;br /&gt;
=Export Methods=&lt;br /&gt;
There are three ways to export events from ZoneMinder. Depending on what events you wish to export one of these methods will usually be superior.&lt;br /&gt;
==Front end interface method==&lt;br /&gt;
This is the easiest way to view events if you want to check all events in the hour/day/week/month or all events for a certain particular camera. &lt;br /&gt;
===Steps===&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:zm_home.png|right|thumb|caption|ZoneMinder homepage]]&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:eventsview.png|right|thumb|caption|Events view allows you to select which events to export]]&lt;br /&gt;
# Login to ZoneMinder as a user who has rights to view the desired monitor.&lt;br /&gt;
# From the home page you should see a table with columns labeling camera name events per hour/day/week/month/all. The very bottom column of this table totals the events across all cameras for the given hour/day etc. Click on the total events under the hour row to continue.&lt;br /&gt;
# You should now be on the event view page. This pages purpose is too list the events selected by your query method. From this view we are provided with many statistics about individual events. We may choose to review the events from this page by clicking on the name of the event, however for the purpose of this how to we will simply choose to export all events by selecting the check-box in the top right cell. After selecting all the events from this view we open up the export dialog by clicking the EXPORT button located in the bottom right corner.&lt;br /&gt;
# This export options dialog that pops up allows us to select the file type that is exported. Before clicking the export button you must first make sure too check the following settings:&lt;br /&gt;
##Export Event Details&lt;br /&gt;
##Export Frame Details&lt;br /&gt;
##Export File Format: Zip&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:zmexport.png|right|thumb|caption|Typical Export form settings]]&lt;br /&gt;
# Once you click the export button ZoneMinder will go through the process of packaging and formatting the events for you, this process can be quite intensive for the server if a large number of events are selected. When the process is completed a download link for a file called zmExport.zip should pop up, select save file and click ok. It is important to make a note of where you save your file as you will need to access it later.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Event Filter==&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:eventfilter.png|right|thumb|caption|Events Filter form]]&lt;br /&gt;
The filter method of exporting events gives the user the most detail and control in the event query. As this method allows you to make very refined queries it does add some complexity to the process. To illustrate the power of this export method I will show you how Event Filter can create a custom query that is saved for future use, this custom query will select all events that have had more than 50 alarm frames on Mondays.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
===Steps===&lt;br /&gt;
# On the bottom left side of your ZoneMinder homepage there should be a button labeled &amp;quot;Filter&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
# The form section under the use filter select box is the area where we will define steps the event filter evaluates. To add the second step for the event filter simply click the + button on the bottom left of the field-set&lt;br /&gt;
## The first filter should be &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Alarm Frames&amp;#039;&amp;#039; - &amp;#039;&amp;#039;greater than&amp;#039;&amp;#039; - 50&lt;br /&gt;
## Your second filter should be &amp;#039;&amp;#039;and&amp;#039;&amp;#039; - &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Weekday&amp;#039;&amp;#039; - &amp;#039;&amp;#039;equal to&amp;#039;&amp;#039; - &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Monday&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
# To save this event filter method click on the save button. Make sure to write in a descriptive name for the filter.&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:alarmfiltersave.png|right|thumb|caption|Events Filter save form box]]&lt;br /&gt;
# Executing the event filter after you have saved it is as simple as clicking execute at the bottom of the page.&lt;br /&gt;
# You should now be on the event view page. This pages purpose is too list the events selected by your query method. From this view we are provided with many statistics about individual events. We may choose to review the events from this page by clicking on the name of the event, however for the purpose of this how to we will simply choose to export all events by selecting the check-box in the top right cell. ==Individual camera export==&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:individualview.png|right|thumb|caption|Individual camera view allows you to select specific events]]&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:individualeventview.png|right|thumb|caption|From the individual event view exporting is as simple as clicking export (top left)]]&lt;br /&gt;
This export Method is the simplest way to check and export an individual event that has happened recently on a specific monitor&lt;br /&gt;
===Steps===&lt;br /&gt;
# From your ZoneMinder homepage open the [[individual view]] of a specific camera&lt;br /&gt;
# On the &amp;quot;watch&amp;quot; view of a monitor the recent events should be listed by date under the live stream. Click on an event from this list to view the individual event.&lt;br /&gt;
# On the individual event view page you should get a stream of the event. To export this event simply click the Export link located at the top of the page.&lt;br /&gt;
# This export options dialog that pops up allows us to select the file type that is exported. Before clicking the export button you must first make sure too check the following settings:&lt;br /&gt;
##Export Event Details&lt;br /&gt;

When the process is completed a download link for a file called zmExport.zip should pop up, select save file and click ok. It is important to make a note of where you save your file as you will need to access it later.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Extracting Events=&lt;br /&gt;
A note about this section of the how to, For the examples i am using a custom export_functions.php plug-in that comes native in stagecoach wireless ZoneMinder installs.&lt;br /&gt;
Once you have selected your desired set of events you need a logical way to organize them and store them on your computer. My suggestion is too unzip all ZoneMinder exports to a specific folder so you have them all in one place to easily browse and backup.&lt;br /&gt;
==How to unpack the export files==&lt;br /&gt;
Most operating systems have many different applications that allow you to extract zoneminder.zip packages. For this example i will show you one way to do this.&lt;br /&gt;
===Linux===&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:archiveopen.png|right|thumb|caption|Ready to extract the events folder for viewing]]&lt;br /&gt;
#Navigate to the folder where zmexport.zip was downloaded to. In this example i have 4 zmexport.zip files extracted to the folder&lt;br /&gt;
#Double click opening up the archive manager&lt;br /&gt;
#Drag the events folder from the archive manager window into another folder. For ease of use i suggest you make a separate folder to store all your ZM export events in.&lt;br /&gt;
===Windows===&lt;br /&gt;
# Navigate to the folder where zmexport.zip was downloaded to. In this example i have 4 zmexport.zip files extracted to the folder&lt;br /&gt;
# Right-click the filename and select open with your archive manager (e.g 7-zip, winzip or winrar if you are using windows)&lt;br /&gt;
# When your archiving software is loaded up you should be able to select the events folder from zmexport.zip and drag it to your desired location in the file structure.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Viewing Extracted Events=&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:zmeventsmasterfile.png|right|thumb|caption|zmEventImagesMaster.html has a time-stamp identifier so you can extract multiple events to one folder and still organize them by date]]&lt;br /&gt;
To view the events you have just extracted simply browse to the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;events&amp;#039;&amp;#039; folder. To view the interface of all events open up the newest zmEventImagesMaster file in Fire Fox.&lt;br /&gt;
From this page you get a tabbed view showing you events organized by monitor and chronological order. Within each events view you can display individual frames from the event or meta data about the event date/time/length&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;gallery&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Image:zmeventmaster.png|Event viewer&lt;br /&gt;
Image:zmeventframes.png|Frames viewer&lt;br /&gt;
Image:zmeventdetails.png|Event data view&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/gallery&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
==Events folder structure==&lt;br /&gt;
*events&lt;br /&gt;
**monitor-ids&lt;br /&gt;
***event-ID&lt;br /&gt;
****zmEventDetail.html (this is the file that contains meta data about an individual event)&lt;br /&gt;
****zmEventFrames.html (this is the file containing a listed view of all event frames)&lt;br /&gt;
****xxx-capture.jpg (individual snapshot from the event)&lt;br /&gt;
**zmEventImagesMaster.html (this is the file that acts as the &amp;quot;home&amp;quot; page for each event extraction. you can extract multiple event sets to the events folder and acquire a list of these files&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

==Prerequisites==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Setting up the Axis 210 camera is a simple ordeal with a few minimum requirements.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
*IP address of camera.&lt;br /&gt;
*Username and password for the camera.&lt;br /&gt;
*Administrator access to Zone Minder.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Checking camera configuration==&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:axis_210.png|right|thumb|caption|This should be displayed if you successfully navigate to the cameras IP address]]&lt;br /&gt;
Before we can configure the camera within Zone Minder we must check to make sure the cameras internal settings are compatible.&lt;br /&gt;
#Check that the camera is connected and working by entering the cameras IP address. If you are successfull a web page with a live view of the camera should appear.&lt;br /&gt;
#From the cameras homepage the &amp;#039;setup&amp;#039; link in the top right corner too the configuration page. You should be prompted to enter the username and password for the camera. On the settings page you should see a menu on the left hand side. Click through on &amp;#039;Basic Configuration&amp;#039; followed by the &amp;#039;Video &amp;amp;amp;  Image&amp;#039; links. Take a note of the resolution settings, as it will be needed later on.&lt;br /&gt;

==Zone Minder configuration==&lt;br /&gt;
[[image:axis_source_settings.png|right|thumb|caption|basic settings for an axis camera with 320x240 resolution]]&lt;br /&gt;
After setting up the cameras configuration and verifying it works we need to tell Zone Minder how to display the camera.&lt;br /&gt;
#[[How_to_login|Login]] to Zone Minder.&lt;br /&gt;
#Click on the &amp;quot;Add New Monitor&amp;quot; link located at the bottom of the page, this will take you to the configuration page for adding a new camera.&lt;br /&gt;
#Open up the presets pop up by clicking on the &amp;#039;presets&amp;#039; link (located on the top right hand corner of the page). From this page select with the drop down box the &amp;quot;Axis 210, 320x240,JPEG,With all Camera Options&amp;quot; and click save.&lt;br /&gt;
#On the general tab of the monitor configuration page we have the option to change the name of a monitor. It is recommended to give a name descriptive to where it is located or what it shows.&lt;br /&gt;
#Navigate to the &amp;quot;source&amp;quot; tab in the monitor configuration page and verify that the following fields have these settings&lt;br /&gt;
##Remote Host Name: root:&amp;lt;pw&amp;gt;@&amp;lt;ip-address&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
##*replace &amp;lt;pw&amp;gt; with the password you used to access the cameras configuration page, replace &amp;lt;ip-address&amp;gt; with the IP address you used to access the camera previously.&lt;br /&gt;
##Remote Host Path: /axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi&lt;br /&gt;
##*replace the 320x240 with the width and height you set on the camera configuration.&lt;br /&gt;
##Capture Width: 320 and Capture Height: 240&lt;br /&gt;
##*Once again replace these values with the values you set on the camera configuration page&lt;br /&gt;
#Once you save the settings your camera should be listed on the homepage, If it is recording successfully the IP address will be green.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

Go back to the [[How_To|How To]] pages...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Enable motion detection=&lt;br /&gt;
ZoneMinder has the ability to put cameras in a motion detection mode. The easiest way to check if a camera is currently in motion detect mode is from the home page. From the home page you can check the state of an individual camera by observing the color/text under the function column of the table. If it is green and says &amp;quot;Modect&amp;quot; the corresponding camera is in motion detection mode. To enable the motion detection function on a camera simply click on the its corresponding function link (image 1). This will open up a small form giving you the function options that are available (image 2).&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;gallery&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
image:landingpage_modect_highlight.png|We can see in this image that &amp;quot;Monitor-2&amp;quot; is currently in Modect(motion detect) mode&lt;br /&gt;
image:togglemodetect.png|From this form you can change the recording function used for this monitor.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/gallery&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
=Configure motion detection areas=&lt;br /&gt;
One of the most powerful features of ZoneMinder is the ability to configure motion detection areas or “zones”. When ZoneMinder detects motion on a defined zone it will record an event giving you the time, date and video of the movement. The configuration of zones in ZoneMinder is very powerful for a more in depth look at the different parameters you can set check out [[Zone_Parameter_Explanations|zone parameter explanations]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For this example we will set up a simple zone for a camera looking down on a road. The purpose of this zone is to isolate events to just be when a car is passing. Setting up a zone like this is a very effective way to cut down the meaningless events such as pedestrians, trees or side roads.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
# From the ZoneMinder homepage click on the corresponding zone link located in the far right column. This should take you to the monitor zones menu.&lt;br /&gt;
# On this menu you can edit existing zones or add a new zone, for this tutorial click add new zone. This takes you to the configuration page for the zone.&lt;br /&gt;
# The zone configuration page is where we define the zone on top of a live view of the monitor. However before we can do this we must set a unique name and make sure the preset is set to “Fast high sensitivity”.&lt;br /&gt;
#On the right hand side of the zone configuration page we drag and drop the zone nodes to draw a shape. To add additional nodes to the image simply click the + link on a point area (defined below the drawing widget)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;gallery&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
image:roof_homepage_highlighted.png|Zone link is on the far right of the highlighted box&lt;br /&gt;
image:mp4_roofzones.png|Either click on a camera name or &amp;#039;Add new zone&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
image:roof_zone_config.png|Blue box: set as &amp;quot;Fast high sensitivity&amp;quot;&amp;lt;br/&amp;gt;Red box: Click the + link to add a node between 3 and 4.&lt;br /&gt;
